Local Township to Receive Recycling Funds, Day Says
Heidelberg Township in Lehigh County will receive more than $5,500 in state grant funds for its recycling program, Rep. Gary Day (R-Lehigh/Berks) said today.
The grant, made possible through the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), is based on the 321.5 tons of materials recycled during the 2008 calendar year and the township’s population.
“Citizens of Heidelberg Township take very seriously their commitment to recycle,” Day said. “Not only is recycling good for the environment by reducing space needed in landfills, but recycling is a multi-million dollar business in Pennsylvania as more and more companies are going green by manufacturing and using green products. I congratulate Heidelberg Township and its residents for doing their part.”
This grant is in addition to funds that DEP offers to municipalities to establish and maintain recycling programs.
