Wildlands Conservancy Benefits from State Grant

The Wildlands Conservancy Inc. will use a $332,025 state grant from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the Swabia Creek Restoration Project, according to Reps. Gary Day (R-Berks/Lehigh) and Doug Reichley (R-Berks/Lehigh), supporters of the environmental grant.

“The Conservancy has worked hard over the years to conserve our natural resources, through education and action,” said Day.  “The Lehigh River and its tributaries are regional assets that provide all of us with recreational opportunities and beautiful open spaces.”

A tributary of the Little Lehigh Creek, Swabia Creek is a limestone creek that is a regional Wildlands Conservancy and DEP restoration priority.  Swabia Creek is impaired by the buildup of silt. This project will rehabilitate the waterway, restoring it to a more natural state and further protecting it from development.

“Wildlands Conservancy is a leader in local preservation efforts to ensure that rivers and streams in the Lehigh Valley are kept pristine, and continue to be natural wonders,” said Reichley.
