Kutztown to Receive State Money for Water Meters, Day Says
HARRISBURG – The Kutztown Municipal Authority will receive a $50,277 grant from the state’s Commonwealth Financing Authority to help replace two large water meters in the borough, said Rep. Gary Day (R-Lehigh/Berks).
“The Commonwealth Financing Authority awards state funds to programs and projects throughout the state that will help with community investments,” Day said. “This grant will be put to good use by ensuring that the borough has reliable data on water usage within the town and can appropriately bill for that water usage. Without accurate data, the authority and its customers ultimately lose money.”
The two large water meters to be replaced with this grant funding serve Kutztown University at the opposite ends of campus. Both meters were installed in the 1990s, and as they age, the accuracy has begun to decline. The new meters will allow for greater flow recording accuracy and can be done with less equipment.
The funding was awarded at Wednesday’s meeting of the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
