Learn More about Career Choices During Event with Rep. Gary Day on March 5
SCHNECKSVILLE – Students in grades eight through 12 living in the 187th District who are interested in learning more about their future career options are invited to attend a Career Awareness Event at the Lehigh Career and Technical Institute for a Career Awareness Night on Wednesday, March 5, from 4-8 p.m., hosted by Rep. Gary Day (R-Lehigh/Berks).

“It is never too early to begin to look at a variety of career options, including those in high-demand fields,” Day said. “Studies show – and workforce experts agree – that not all careers require four-year or advanced college degrees, and many emerging fields will need people with highly developed skills. By informing our future workforce about the variety of career options available, we are hoping they will seek out a career that interests them and help them best plan for their future.”

The event will include speakers on the following topics:

• Future career preparation.
• Professional school counselors who can help with course selection, access to employers with current openings and future openings.
• Time with college representatives to discuss majors and the college process.

Participating employers, colleges and armed forces branches will include Lutron, PPL, St. Luke’s University Health Care System, Loikits, Cetronia Ambulance, IBEW, Essroc, Kraft, Michael Foods, Lehigh Valley Plastics, CSC, Lehigh Carbon Community College, Bloomsburg University, Alvernia University, Albright College, Penn State University-Lehigh Valley, Kutztown University, Army National Guard, United States Navy, United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force, in addition to many more.

The goal for career awareness event is to find an interest, and then check out the type of education and training needed to begin the career path.

The Lehigh Career and Technical Institute is located at 4500 Education Park Drive in Schnecksville.

In the event of inclement weather and/or school closures, the snow date will be Thursday, March 6, at the same time.

Students attending the following school districts are encouraged to attend: Brandywine Heights Area, Fleetwood Area, Kutztown Area, Northwestern Lehigh and Parkland.
