House Select Committee on School Safety, Security to Hold First Hearing

WHAT:           The House Select Committee on School Safety and Security, led by Reps. Gary Day (R-Berks/Lehigh) and Cherelle Parker (D-Philadelphia), will hold the first hearing in a series of public meetings to carefully develop and examine policies that enhance safety in schools across Pennsylvania. One of the goals of the committee is to hear from Pennsylvanians, educators, law enforcement and others from around the state in order to craft the best possible recommendations. The first meeting will include an overview of already existing state policies and laws dealing with student safety and protection.

WHO:             Day, Parker and members of the House Select Committee. Among those expected to offer testimony will be Education Secretary Ronald Tomalis; Michael Kozup, director, Office of Safe Schools, PA Department of Education; Brigadier General Timothy Hilty, director of the Joint Staff, PA Department of Military and Veterans Affairs; Glenn Cannon, director, PA Emergency Management Agency; Col. Frank Noonan, commissioner, PA State Police; Lt. Col. George Bivens, deputy commissioner of operations, PA State Police; David Freed, district attorney, Cumberland County, and vice president, PA District Attorneys Association; and Chief Robert Martin, Susquehanna Township Police Department, and former chief, Dauphin County Chiefs of Police Association.
