HARRISBURG – Some recent high school and college graduates need more than their diploma in order to pursue their careers in Pennsylvania. Some graduates need a professional license issued by the Commonwealth, and Rep. Gary Day (R-Lehigh/Berks) and his district office staff can help them acquire it.

“My staff and I are here to assist recent graduates in their efforts to get the state licenses they need to begin their new professions,” Day said. “We want to help graduates so they can acquire the licenses they need to find good-paying jobs and start their careers.”

Pennsylvania requires a variety of workers to obtain a professional license in order to practice their trade within the Commonwealth.

Accountants, architects, barbers, chiropractors, dentists, doctors, engineers, nurses, optometrists, pharmacists, physical therapists, psychologists, social workers and veterinarians are just some of the professionals who must obtain a license from the Pennsylvania Department of State in order to work in Pennsylvania.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of State’s website, there are currently 29 licensing boards and commissions that establish rules for their respective professions. Each board or commission contains between seven and 17 members, who are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Senate.

“My office helps people navigate the process so they can focus more of their energy on finding their first job in their new profession,” Day said. “It’s a wonderful feeling to help our constituents acquire their professional license so they can begin the job of their dreams.”

Recent graduates or others who would like assistance applying for or renewing a professional license are encouraged to contact Day’s district office. The office is located in the Star Plaza at 6299 Route 309, Suite 302, in New Tripoli. The office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office phone number is 610-760-7082.
