HARRISBURG – Rep. Gary Day (R-Lehigh/Berks) announced that a $1,000,000 Pipeline Investment grant was recently awarded to the Lehigh Valley Economic Investment Corporation (LVEIC) for the extension of a natural gas service to the Arcadia Business Park in Weisenberg Township in Lehigh County.
“This project will give commercial and residential properties access to cleaner burning, domestically produced natural gas while also encouraging new economic growth in our region,” Day said. “Additional economic opportunities could help lessen the tax burden on our residents.”
The pipeline will start in Upper Macungie Township and run from Adams Road through Weiss Road, Heffner Road, Sunset Drive, Nestle Way and terminate at Golden Key Road in Weisenburg Township.
In addition, the project will provide direct access to low-cost energy for 14 commercial businesses and 15 residences, as well as to an additional 7-acre parcel of undeveloped land that is being considered for hotel and retail development and the creation of 200 jobs.
The grant was awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Pipeline Investment Program, which assists entities in the construction of natural gas distribution lines to business parks, existing manufacturing and industrial enterprises to boost job creation in Pennsylvania while providing access to low-cost energy for residents.
Funds can be used for acquisition, construction, and site preparation costs associated with extending natural gas pipelines to serve eligible applicants.
