– Rep. Gary Day (R-Lehigh/Berks) today applauded the U.S. Department of Agriculture for approving statewide disaster relief for eligible farmers in Lehigh and Berks counties, along with 59 other Pennsylvania counties, to help recoup losses caused by the extended rainfall in the 2018 crop year.
“In no other occupation does a world’s basic needs rely so heavily on Mother Nature,” Day said. “Unfortunately, we had a tremendous amount of rainfall last year, and it wreaked havoc on crop production on our area. I’m pleased to see the federal government approve this much-need relief for our hard-working farmers.”
The statewide disaster funding was a result of a secretarial disaster declaration and can include emergency loans from the federal Farm Service Agency (FSA).
Eligible farmers can apply for loans for up to eight months after a secretarial disaster declaration and should contact their local FSA office for assistance. More information on USDA’s disaster assistance program, including county lists and maps, can be found here
