HARRISBURG – Rep. Gary Day (R-Lehigh/Berks) today announced he has been named to two new House committees for the 2019-20 session which will allow him to provide legislative oversight on critical issues impacting the lives of citizens in the 187th District and across Pennsylvania.
Day was named to the Tourism and Recreational Development and Gaming Oversight committees and retained his seats on the House Insurance and Professional Licensure committees.
“Pennsylvania’s tourism industry and its gaming industry both have a huge economic impact on communities throughout the Commonwealth, including those in the 187th District,” Day said. “I look forward to these new assignments and ensuring both industries, which support important programs and services in Pennsylvania, are thriving.”
The House Tourism and Recreational Development Committee considers issues including travel and tourism promotion.
The Gaming Oversight Committee is responsible for overseeing Pennsylvania’s gaming industry, including the dealings of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
Day is a longtime member of the Insurance Committee, which handles legislation regarding general insurance company operations, including homeowners, life, health and automobile, as well as agent and broker licensing and medical malpractice insurance. Likewise, his continued service on the House Professional Licensure Committee will involve aspects of licensing the 29 boards for various occupations and professions, such as those involving health care and consumer services.
“One of the issues I learned a lot about through my time on the Professional Licensure and Insurance committees was telemedicine, and I’m excited to continue my work on that issue this session,” Day said. “Telemedicine is a significant and rapidly growing component of the health care industry and it allows specialists and other health care providers are able to expand their reach, helping patients stay in their communities and avoid traveling long distances for specialized care.”
Day previously served on the Local Government and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness committees, and as chairman of the House Select Committee on School Safety and Security.
