HARRISBURG – Rep. Gary Day (R-Berks/Lehigh) is encouraging college students who are looking for summer work to consider employment through PennDOT’s summer program.

Day said candidates must be 18 years of age or older and enrolled full-time as a full-time college student for the fall 2017 semester. Applicants must also have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.

“This is a great program, especially for students in engineering programs or who want to spend time outdoors,” Day said.

The Summer Employment Program runs from April through August to supplement the permanent workforce. Government services interns are used primarily for summer maintenance and sign upgrade services. They also perform laboring duties in maintenance organizations as well as worksites along the highway.

The deadline to apply is Friday, Feb. 10. For more information on summer employment opportunities, or to apply, go to employment.pa.gov and click on “student summer employment positions” under the non-civil service category.

Day also said applicants should call his office by Feb. 10 to let them know they have applied.
